Wonderful start to 2015 with two students from Queensland, Australia. We had five fun filled days of pure creativity and they headed off with some lovely pieces of jewellery they had made.

I am now building some rings for the continued show in Edinburgh and also making some new pieces for Cortijo Romero, here in Orgiva. Springtime rings using some very tiny emeralds, pearl and peridot.

Looking forwards to meeting new students this year and continuing with my local folk who attend the workshop once a week.

Edinburgh Show

Finally sent off 49 pieces (if I could figure out how to upload pics I would!) with DHL to the Edinburgh show at Gallery Ten in Stafford St. hoping it will arrive tomorrow (tracking has it still in Seville after 29hours! wth?) and Paul has time to price it all up and get the display arranged ready for the private view on Saturday 22nd! Very exciting for me having the show in my home town and to think back 39 years to when I was living in Queensferry Street, just around the corner from Gallery Ten and learning the art of jewellery making at Edinburgh Art College. I used to go into Ness the jewellers under the flat I lived in and rake through all their loose stones searchoing for the odd baroque pearls I liked to set into silver rings...... Lot of water has gone under the bridge since then! On we go! And I hope the show is a roaring success!

January 2014

Hello everyone, I am seeing a lot of peeking at the site when I go online to do my Admin, so I am hoping we shall have some enthusiastic new students coming over in 2014 to make some silver goodies at the Sky's the Limit Art Workshop!

I have been asked if I do out of season classes, and the answer is YES! So long as you can entertain yourselves for the rest of the time as there is not so much to do here during the winter!

What's cooking now in the workshop?

Hello everyone, right now I am making a selection of silver work for an up and coming exhibition in Edinburgh's Gallery X, located in the West End, Stafford Street. The show is a collective but I am very happy to once again be showing in my home town, all thanks to my friend, and gallery director, Paul Musgrove.

I have uploaded some more videos onto you tube. Two on making silver chains, and two of classes in action with my good friend Scarlet. Click on My Videos, and that will connect you.

I am also making some hand stitched leather sporrans for the show! I am using cow hide and Scottish salmon skins that look a bit like snake skin... The sporrans are combined leather with silver, silver capped tassels, and miniature silver bells. I will be making a video on the making of these over the next few days, time allowing, so keep in the loop, and maybe it will make you want to come over and spend a week here with us at the workshop and learn some other skills. Weather now in Orgiva is changeable, rain and grey scudding clouds, snow powdering the Sierra Lujar, but nice and toasty in the studio! bye for now ! Rachel

Summer courses

Welcome everyone to my new website and thanks to Mark Chinick for a great job.I am hoping to meet two new students in August who are coming over from the UK. Still plently room for students if you feel for learning something creative this summer/autumn!

Recent work is on show/sale in Madrid at the Mamblona pop up shop run by fellow artisana Sofia Fernadez Caleri,if you google Mamblona you get a taste of the sort of shops she opens for a brief period twice or three times a year. Will add the address in Madrid asap...

Other news is that sillver is on the up, as is gold, but that is just the way of things at the moment, it is still a relatively cheap material at about one euro a gram. Plus ,one cannot loose on it.An average plain ring would weigh 3 to 5 gms.I will see if Mark can link the Bullion Prices site to this one so we always have access to that info.

Had Giles in the workshop last week doing some silversmithing ,working on sheet brass (guilding metal) and we both produced nice simple bowls.
